Guangdong’s five major advantages of LED industry: total output value will increase by 350 billion yuan

On the morning of October 10th, the Provincial Department of Science and Technology organized the "Guangdong LED Industry Innovation and Development Symposium". Director Huang Ningsheng, Deputy Director Ye Jingtu and Gong Guoping, and Deputy Director Zhang Yanfei of the Provincial Quality Supervision Bureau attended the symposium. The symposium took the opportunity of the recent blue-light LED technology to win the Nobel Prize in Physics, which is the most valuable in the world's scientific and technological circles, to discuss the development of Guangdong's LED industry and to judge the new situation of industry development.
At the meeting, Director Huang Ningsheng fully affirmed the development of LED strategic emerging industries in Guangdong Province and said, "Scientists represented by Shuji Nakamura won the Nobel Prize in Physics for the invention of blue-light LED technology, which fully proves that LED, a great technology that benefits mankind, is recognized by the world, and the entire LED industry will usher in new development opportunities. Shuji Nakamura is also the fourth batch of innovations introduced by Guangdong Province in 2013. As the leader of the entrepreneurial team, this has positive and far-reaching significance for Guangdong Province to lay out the LED industry in advance and take the lead. "As for the next step, he pointed out that the first is to seize the opportunity, take advantage of the trend, strengthen the LED industry on the existing basis, and enhance the core competitiveness of Guangdong's LED industry; the second is to implement major special projects on standard optical components and visible light communication technology, strengthen industry-university-research cooperation, broaden and deepen the LED field, and accelerate the construction of a new blue ocean for industrial development.
Deputy Director Gong Guoping reported on the work of the Provincial Department of Science and Technology in focusing on the LED industry. According to him, in just four years, Guangdong LED has established five major advantages in the country. The output value this half year reached 154.5 billion yuan, and the total output value for the whole year is expected to increase by 350 billion yuan. Zhang Yanfei, deputy director of the Provincial Quality Supervision Bureau, elaborated on the quality supervision bureau’s approach and effectiveness in the LED industry, and proposed that with the new opportunity of blue LED technology winning the Nobel Prize in Physics, Guangdong should speed up the standardization process, continuously improve the product quality supervision system, strengthen industry self-discipline, and further improve the quality of Guangdong LED products. Deputy Director Ye Jingtu put forward three suggestions: First, we must firmly grasp the development of substrate material technology, use substrate technology as a strategic support point for the LED industry, and form a LED industry standard system, patent layout, and technical route with Guangdong characteristics; second, we must increase the application and promotion of Guangdong LED standard optical components in brother provinces, and Fully cooperate with international organizations to promote LED standard optical components from the country to the world; third, we must accelerate the integration of the LED industry with consumer electronics, raw materials, communications, optoelectronics and other related industries, cooperate in depth with relevant industries, develop together, and cultivate emerging industries and strategic growth points with huge development potential.
At the meeting, representatives attending the meeting expressed their opinions on the award-winning blue LED technology and the next development of the Guangdong industry. They agreed that the Nobel Prize in Physics for blue LED technology has contributed to the development of the LED industry and further boosted the confidence of the LED industry. Representatives at the meeting hoped that through the promulgation of the Nobel Prize in Physics, the government authorities should scientifically plan the industrial development path according to the new situation, clarify the new direction of industrial development, promote close cooperation between enterprises, associations and scientific research institutes, jointly tackle key problems, and collaborate on innovation, so as to truly enhance the international competitiveness of Guangdong's LED industry and seize the international voice.
